Völva

Völva
In Nordic myth the sibyl of the Völuspa, the Völva’s prophecy, and she also appears to have been the one consulted by Odin in the story of Vegtam. It is of interest to note that in spite of their predominantly masculine outlook, the Nordic races continued to venerate the women seers of the previous occupants of the area until well after the arrival of Christianity. The term Völva may have been a similar one to the Slavonic Vala, Veela, and Vila. The Völva of the Völuspa was named Gullveig.
